 More About Us

Our name originates from the Rainbow Gold Mine located on our property about a mile below our lodge in El Dorado Canyon. The Rainbow Gold Mine was developed in 1800’s during the heat of the California Gold rush era. It was a very productive mine averaging about $50 dollars per day per miner. In the 1850’s there was a boarding house adjacent to the mine. The mine opening and an old wood burning stove are the only remains of the Rainbow Gold Mine. There is also a second mine that can be visited that was operational until the 1950’s, it is well within walking distance of our lodge.

The view from our decks boasts over seventy five miles of unbroken mountains and forest.

We have deer, quail, fox, and bear to name a few of the frequently spotted animals.
Somewhere over the Rainbow is a bird watcher’s paradise; there are numerous species of birds that live in the area year round, including large flocks of Blue Birds, Red Tail Hawks, Golden Eagles, and Falcons, Black Headed Gross Beaks, A variety of Wood Peckers, Owls, Flickers, and Band Tail Pigeons.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow has many old growth trees that are well over a thousand years old in addition to copious amounts of Ponderosa Pines, Sugar Pines, Cedar, White Fir, Dogwood, and Black Oak.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow Lodge is a great place for cooperate meetings if you prefer a more remote setting for the total attention of your employees. We have a cell booster and offer wireless internet access as well.

This is the place to get away from it all!
