Welcome to Winning With Smiles Children's Dentistry. It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to serve your wishes. We look forward to sharing with you what we know about creating optimal dental health for growing children.

Our practice has evolved since 1974 with the guidance given us by many children. We also take pride in keeping current with the latest research and applying that knowledge to providing the best possible care for our patients. You will no doubt notice many things we do differently than when you were a child or than what you currently experience in your own dentist's office. We encourage questions since we believe that is how we can best address your concerns about long range dental health.

Available 24 Hours
Dr. Thompson can be called anytime, 24 hours a day, for an emergency. Call the office phone, (530) 878-2357, where you will be given the option to describe your need and activate his pager. Pagers are not fool proof. If Dr. Thompson is in an area where pagers and cell phones do not respond and you can’t wait any longer for a response, you may want to call one of the other pediatric dentists in the area or your own family dentist.

We want to provide our services in a way that encourages our patients to take personal responsibility for their own health; to truly appreciate their own oral health.
We want to be a team of professionals who enjoy working cooperatively to maximize our personal skills in delivering the best possible service to our patients.
By offering the best to our patients and the professionals with whom we communicate, our practice will grow through personal referral.

We deserve to be adequately compensated for our skills so:
- we can live comfortably
- we feel secure that our future years are being planned for adequately
- we enjoy coming to work for our pay
- we are financially sound and still here for our patients next year.

We also realize that "top line" profitability is measured not in dollars, but rather in how we feel about the quality of service we provide and relationship we have with our patients and our work team.
We will strive to pursue continuing education to a level that insures we are offering the best service to ourselves and our patients
Leadership involves having a vision and being able to inspire others to work toward that vision. It is a process of motivation, example and encouragement (as contrasted with a process of authority).

Winning With Smiles - Meet the Staff
Dr. Scott Thompson, DDS
Scott Thompson started his dental education at the University of California in San Francisco Dental School where he graduated in 1970. He then spent two years practicing general dentistry in the U. S. Air Force in the Philippine Islands. While there he decided to pursue children’s dentistry and after the Air Force returned to UCSF Dental School to study, graduating from the Pediatric Program in 1974.

The San Francisco Bay Area was home, so he took over a Pediatric Dental Practice in Marin County, north of San Francisco, in 1974 where he practiced for twenty nine years. This highly educated upper middle class community helped Dr. Thompson learn how integral an education is with good dental and general health. The patients and families in this practice responded well to health promoting information and experienced a very low dental disease rate.

Then Dr. Thompson relocated to a rural setting in the foothills of California where, in a new small practice, he discovered an entirely different attitude and experience with dental and general health. The dental disease experience was much higher, especially in the children. Simultaneously he began working in a large children’s practice in a low income area of Sacramento where the poor oral health is astounding. There he sees the impact on health that low income and minimal education brings. He divides his time between the office and the hospital operating room treating children under general anesthesia.
 Dr. Jennifer Ryan, DDS, MS
Dr. Jennifer Ryan grew up in the Bay Area, where she graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in psychology. She received her DDS degree with highest honors from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in 1997, where she was awarded the Charles Sweet Award for clinical excellence in the treatment of children. Dr. Ryan completed a three-year residency in pediatric dentistry at the University of California, San Francisco and received both her pediatric dentistry specialty certificate and a master's degree in Oral Biology in 2000. Dr. Ryan believes that all cavities are preventable, and strives to provide parents with the knowledge to prevent cavities in their own children. Her philosophy of care is to treat every child the way she would want her own children treated.

Dr. Ryan is excited to be back in her hometown of Meadow Vista after eight years of private practice in pediatric dentistry in Roseville. She and her husband, Donal, have lived in Meadow Vista since 2003. Dr. Ryan’s husband is an anesthesiologist at Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital, and they both enjoy staying home part-time to care for their 3 children, Connor, Taryn, and Lachlan.

She is a member of the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the California Society of Pediatric Dentists, and the Sacramento District Dental Society.
 Stefani
Hi I’m Stefani, I’m one of the Dental Assistants who works beside Drs. Thompson and Ryan and directly with patients and their parents. I graduated from the Regional Occupational Program of Monterey County in 2004. I have been in the Dental Field for 6 years with five of those years focused on Pediatric Dentistry. I love working with the kids, educating them as well as their parents’ about oral health. I truly believe in the power of education and the belief that a clean tooth cannot decay. Outside of the office I enjoy spending time with family and friends, boyfriend and our boxer Brodie, jet skiing, snowboarding, dancing, laughing, and just plain having fun!

Stefani also coordinates our connections with the community. So whether it is Pioneer Day in Meadow Vista, Birthday Parties, Sports Teams or other connections and events, Stefani is our 'go to' person.
 Shauna
Hi, I’m Shauna. I’ve been a Registered Dental Assistant specializing in pediatric dentistry for 18 years. Treating and educating patients is the best part of my job. I love to incorporate parents and give them an active roll in their child’s dental visits. Outside of the office, I love to be outdoors. I enjoy tournament bass fishing, indoor soccer, jogging, wakeboarding, harley riding, and traveling.

Shauna is also responsible for keeping the clinical side of our practice "in order." Whether ordering supplies, manageing our OSHA and HIPAA and Infection Control requirements, or organizing our equipment; she keeps us functional.

 Maggie
Hi, my name is Maggie. I have been a Registered Dental Assistant for 10 years. I graduated from Western Career College with licences including xray, prophylaxis and sealant placement. I have been working with Dr Thompson since he opened his practice in 2004. I started chairside and as our pracitce grew I gravitated toward the front office. I am now full time handling the front end as a treatment coordinator. My main goal is to help our parents understand their insurance and benefits fully and assist in handling whatever questions or concerns they might have related to their insurance plans. I also help to educate our parents and empower our children to understand the importance of oral hygiene.

In my personal time I enjoy anything that includes outdoor activites. I love running our beautiful trails here in the foothills and am often caught catching sun at our nearby lakes and rivers. When at home, I hang out with my teenage daughter and Kai my Shitzu.

Don't forget to count your daily blessings

Maggie also keeps Dr Thompson's and the team's professional calendar and connections in order. That includes attendance at professional meetings, lunches and meetings with local professionals, travel arrangements etc. She is also the "voice" of the practice, answering the many calls that come to us daily.

 Angie
Hi. My name is Angie. I graduated from Galen College in Fresno in 1982. My experience includes Oral Surgery, Endodontics and General Dentistry. I have worked in Pediatric Dentistry for the last 3 years. The best part of my job is working with children. I truly believe if you start educating your family at an early age your children will have a better start in oral health.

My other part time job is spending time with my husband and my 2 boys, ages 9 and 10. They are very involved in sports and they keep us very busy. When I am away from my family, I enjoy working out, shopping, reading and having fun with my friends.

Angie is also our connection with the Hispanic patients in our practice. She has become a wonderful educator for children about oral health and is especially appreciated by the parents whose English is more limited than the children.
